    New Year’s Clock Cookies

I hope that 2011 was a great year for everyone and that you are full of excitement and high hopes for 2012!
I’m back from my Christmas vacation in Hawaii and I am pooped!
(To see some of my pictures from my vacation, click here.)
Why is it that you need a vacation after the vacation?? Coming back home to laundry, putting away all of your goodies and getting over jet-lag is bad enough, but I also added Christmas to the mix. We did Christmas presents on the 25th, the 26th and 27th! Way too much excitement!

So, with that in mind, I really, really did not have time to make cookies from scratch or come up with an original idea. I’ve seen Midnight Clock cookies all over the internet. But, I have been running on empty… so I cheated… Sue me!

I picked up a snack size bag of Betty Crocker Sugar Cookies and followed the instructions. (I only had 1 egg in the house, so it’s a good thing this only required butter and water.)
I cut them out with  my cookie/biscuit cutters and placed them on my NEW Silplat cookie sheet liner.
I also stuck a few sicks on some for Cookie Pops at my daughter’s request.
I baked and cooled them according to directions and then it came time to decorate!

I whipped up a modified version Royal Icing because I didn’t need TONS of icing…
    1 cup powered sugar
    1 teaspoon Meringue Power
    1 teaspoon Almond Extract
3 -5 teaspoons of water (you want it thick, yet still gooey)

I am NOT a decorated cookie expert. I’ve read the blogs and tried their advice, but I just don’t have a great steady hand… I have to keep my decorations basic!
So, I did the outline and then came back to flood the face of the cookie. I added my decorations while the icing was still wet and then left them overnight to dry.
Seems like my Royal Icing is just a jester in the court because it did not harden completely.
I drew on the clock hands with my edible markers, but I did punch through a few times. Oops!

They tasted GREAT and my family loved them and that is all that matters 🙂

Count Down to New Years Eve with these fun Clock Sugar Cookies.

I take my coffee black (if it's good stuff), with cream and a li'l sugar (if it's notsogood), or two shots of espresso, nonfat milk, and a li'l syrup in an 8 oz cup.

    9. Hey Karyn. I'm not a fan of coffee, but do drink it from time to time. In order to drink it, it has to have about 3 teaspoons of real sugar and real milk in it. Then I can drink about half a cup…but I love coffee ice cream and I'm sure that anything you make would be fantastic! Amy from Sr K class 🙂

      🙂

    14. I love the New Years Cookies on a stick! I have pinned them and want to make them next year! A little jealous here of your Hawaiian vacation! Your truffles sound like a perfect giveaway! I like my coffee with flavored creamer like your Mother! I also like a spoonful of sugar in it too! I have coffee every morning, so when it comes down to it, I will drink any coffee if I can't make my own as long as I don't have to do without! Thanks for sharing at Mrs Foxs Sweet Party 🙂

    15. My name is Tosha, and honestly I am not a fan of coffee :-/ My husband just got a Keurig, and it is a shame that I do not use it because I am just not a coffee person. I do love hot chocolate though, but that is about it 🙂

    16. I think you did just fine on your cookies! Very cute! 🙂 As for coffee…I love my Keurig! The Green Mountain Dark Magic is one of my favs…w/ flavored creamer…I like the Italian Sweet Cream by Coffee Mate. 🙂

    17. Hi Karyn – I like a good strong decaf with raw sugar and whole milk. That's it. I don't even know how to order a latte or cappuccino at Starbucks. Grande Decaf w/ room, please. Hats off to you for baking these cute cookies after all of that travel and celebrating! Happy New Year! Tonia

    18. well, i'm not a big coffee fan, more of a hot chocolate girl, BUT one day the guy at starbucks convinced me to try my the "salted caramel espresso truffle", and well, that was it i was hooked! it's still more of a "hot chocolate with a kick" than actual coffee, but that's how i like it 🙂 they've changed the name so if you want to try this yummy creation ask for the "salted caramel mocha". enjoy!

    20. I like my coffee either with a couple scoops of hot chocolate or my favorite limited time Almond Joy Creamer,ahhhhh…..I think I'll go make some now 🙂

    21. I love Starbucks coffee that we grind ourselves at home! Then I put some flavored creamer in it based on the season. So pumpkin flavored for fall, mint for Christmas, dulche de leche for Valentine's Day (There's something so decadent about it!) No extra sugar for me, flavored creamer will do!

    22. Haha I didn't realize the post was nearly a year old! But I love these cookies just the same! And honestly, I really don't think of it as cheating unless you just straight up BUY the cookies lol! And it just so happens that I have a cookie mix in the pantry….. Thanks for sharing at Wicked Good Wednesdays!
