Easy Chocolate Pudding Trifle Cups

Make the perfect chocolate dessert to serve to your family with this Chocolate Pudding Trifle Cups recipe. It is easy to make with chocolate cake mix and a few other simple ingredients, leaving you with an impressive, decadent dessert that’s easy for the kids to assemble.

    A perfect Chocolate Dessert

Do you want to create the perfect chocolate dessert that is light, wholesome, and delicious? The trifle consists of cake, pudding, and a sweet whipped topping, along with anything else that you might decide to add on top as a garnish, such as fruit or chocolate morsels. No matter what you add to your trifle, this will indeed become one of your favorite simple deserts of all time.

    The Ingredients Needed

When preparing the chocolate trifle, you will need a few crucial ingredients. Make sure you have:

    • Chocolate Cake Mix (or make it from scratch). You can use your favorite brand of chocolate cake mix to prepare this recipe.
    • Eggs. You will need to add eggs to your cake mix to create the Chocolate Trifle.
    • Instant Chocolate Pudding. Like the cake mix, you can use your favorite brand of instant chocolate pudding for the recipe.
    • Whipped Topping. Thaw out your favorite brand of whipped topping to use when preparing this dessert.

Besides these ingredients, you will need three cups of cold milk and a cup of buttermilk. If you do not have buttermilk, you can use regular milk or water to replace this ingredient in the recipe. With just these six ingredients, you can make this delicious dessert in less than an hour!

When preparing the trifles, start by making the cake mix. Follow the directions on the back of the box that tell you to add eggs, oil, and milk to the mix. Pour the mixture into a 13×9 pan and bake it for as long as it says to do so on the box. Wait for the cake to cool before you use the cake. While you wait for it to cool, add your pudding mix and cold milk into a large bowl, mix well, and place in the fridge.

When your cake cools down, and your pudding has had time to chill, you can start making the Chocolate Trifle. You will need to place a layer of cake down first, followed by a pudding layer and a layer of the whipped topping. You can add your favorite garnishes to the desert if you want to.

    How to Store

It is best to eat your chocolate pudding trifle cups on the same day that you make them. However, if you have extra or would like to eat it later, you can store it in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve it. When holding it in the fridge, it is advised to cover the dessert with foil or a lid to preserve its freshness and keep it from absorbing odors.

    Toppings to add

Get creative by adding different types of toppings to your pudding cups. It all depends on what you like to eat with chocolate in general, but a few toppings naturally go great with this dessert.

    • You can add chocolate sprinkles on top of the whipped cream.
    • Go with a fruit option, like sliced strawberries, kiwi fruit, fresh raspberries or blueberries on top.
    • Miniature morsels are also a great addition to the dessert. The small morsels come in different flavors, including peanut butter, milk chocolate, peppermint chocolate, and dark chocolate, so that you will have plenty of options.

Using different pudding mix flavors to create a custom taste, you can use assorted whipped toppings. While there is nothing wrong with sticking to the traditional whipped topping, you can choose from other options, including whipped topping that tastes like a birthday cake.
