First Communion Cake Pops

cake pops, cross, church, Easter, Baptism, First Communion, Jesus, God,
Easter is Sunday and and that means it’s time for First Communions and Baptisms.
These cake pop were made and sent off to my last Cake Pop Winner for her church group.
I wanted to try my had at doing a Brush Embroidery Flower design, but I was lazy and didn’t want to also make Royal Icing.
    Here’s what I did instead….

To make these, I wanted a flat surface to work on so I made square shaped pops.
I made the pops and dipped them like I always do.
Then, using some Cookie Icing, I painted on the cross. The Cookie Icings isn’t thick. In fact, it’s quite thin. I though about adding powered sugar to thicken it up, but for the amount of icing that I was working with, I decided not to add anything and just let it dry.

Give the icing 5 minutes to start drying. It’ll get tacky and hard around the edges. Then drag a toothpick from the outside to the inside scraping away some of the icing. Don’t go all the way to the edge, you want to leave the outline of the image.
Remove as much as you want. It starts to look almost lacy.
Set it aside again for five minutes to dry.
You can be done at this point, or you can add just a hint of shimmer color to the cross and pop with some luster dust. On these crosses, I used Yellow, Purple and Pink.
I liked the yellow the best.

One of these days I will try a true Brush Embroidery design.
