Christmas season is upon us – department stores are decorated, Pinterest is going nuts with Holiday ideas, and kids are already putting in special requests with Santa. So, I figure, if you can’t beat them, join them! Here’s my first Christmas post for 2015 – Tri-Colored Christmas Cake Pop Tutorial.

I loved the design on the inside and what’s even better is that they are easy to make – I’ll show you how.

For the inside, you’ll make your cake pop dough in red, green, and white. Divide the cake balls into three parts, smoosh them together, roll and then dip and decorate.

    Ingredients

    • 1 Vanilla Cake box mix plus the ingredients on the box
    • Red and Green Gel Food Coloring
    • 3 tablespoons Vanilla frosting
    • 1 bag White Candy Melts
    • 1 bag Green Candy Melts
    • 1 bag Red Candy Melts
    • Sugar Sprinkles
    • Wilton Bow Cany decorations
    • Lollopop sticks

    Instructions

    1. Make the vanilla cake according to the directions. Divide the batter into three bowls. Add 5 drops of red gel food coloring to one bowl, 5 drops of green gel food coloring in another bowl, and leave the third bowl white.
    2. Bake the cakes according to the directions, but check them early since the cake pan won't be as full. Cool cakes completely.
    3. When the cakes are cooled, add one tablespoon of frosting to each cake. Combine the cake and frosting to make your cake pop dough. If the dough does not stick together, add another tablespoon of frosting.
    4. Use a cookie scoop to measure out the cake balls. One tablespoon per cake pop. You should get 10 - 12 balls per cake.  tricolor pops
    5. Cut each cake ball into three equal parts. cut colored dough
    6. Take one of each color and put them together. Roll the pieces together. red white green dough balls
    7. Melt the red, green, and white candy melts in a microwave-safe mug or bowl. Simply dip the pop in the melted candy, tap off the excess, count to 20 and then pour the colored sugar all over the pop. You'll want the coating to be tacky, but not too wet or too dry when you add the sprinkles. Stand up the pops in a stand or put them down candy apple style to dry.
    8. For the white pops, I let the candy coating dry completely before decorating them. I put some white melted candy into a baggie and snipped off the corner. Then I put a few drizzles around the center of the pop and used gold disco dust to stick to the melted drizzles. Then I added some festive red candy bows.
