Ingredients
For the Brownies
- 1 box Brownie Mix (19 oz ) or make Brownies from scratch
- ½ cup unsweetened applesauce
- 2 Tbls water
- 1 egg
For the Acorns
- 2 Cups Peanut Butter Candy Melts
- ½ Cup Dark Chocolate Candy Melts
- Chocolate Sprinkles
- Chocolate Candy or Pretzel Stick
For the Frosting
- ½ cup butter
- 1 ½ cup powdered sugar
- ¼ cup cocoa powder
- 3 tblsp milk
Step by Step
- Mix the brownie mix, unsweetened applesauce, water and egg in a bowl until well combined. Do not overmix.
- Transfer into a cake pop maker or 12 pop mold. Fill the remainder of the batter in a small baking pan. This will be our acorns "feet".
- Bake in the oven as directed at 350℉ for 20 minutes. If you use a pop maker bake as directed. Set Timer
- Let brownies and cake pops cool completely.
- For the top: Melt the peanut butter and chocolate candy melts in the microwave following the directions. Do not overheat. Stir the mixture to make sure that it is smooth and completely melted.
Assembling the acorns
- Dip the rounded end of the “pop” into the peanut butter, shake off the excess coating and then insert a lollipop stick either at an angle or right up the middle. Stand the pops up to dry letting the peanut butter harden for 10 minutes before dipping it into the chocolate.
- Use the lollipop stick as a handle to dip the top of the acorn into the dark chocolate. Holding the pop upside down, shake off the excess coating then sprinkle on some chocolate sprinkles and add a little stem. Stand up to dry.
- For the frosting, cream the butter in a stand up mixer. Alternate adding the milk and powdered sugar and cocoa powder. Whip it until it’s smooth and creamy. Pipe some on to each brownie, add some festive sprinkles.
- Refrigerate the frosted brownie 4 hours before having the pop standing in the brownie. Then serve. Enjoy!
My tips
How to coat a cake pop:
-
The "One-Dip" Method:
Dip the cake pop in one smooth motion until the coating hits the base of the stick. Pull it straight back out, do not stir! -
Tapping off:
Gently tap your wrist (not the stick!) to let the excess coating drip off.
