I love making this homemade Cherry Garcia Ice Cream loaded with fresh, sweet cherries and real chocolate chunks. It’s the best summer treat.
Homemade Cherry Garcia Ice Cream Recipe
It’s my favorite time of year – Ice Cream season! Well, I love ice cream year round, but there’s just something about cold ice cream on a hot summer day. Today I am celebrating all things Ice Cream with my favorite Ice Cream flavor – Homemade Cherry Garcia Ice Cream. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Ben and Jerry’s Cherry Garcia Ice Cream! Yes, I enjoy chocolate, strawberry, coffee, peppermint, vanilla, and everything in between, but there is something about the cherries and dark chocolate that just sing to me. This amazing version is made with fresh, sweet cherries and chocolate chunks!
Do you have all the supplies to make your own homemade ice cream? I have a KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker Attachment, but I have a lot of friends who have the Cuisinart Pure Indulgence 2-Quart Automatic Frozen Yogurt, Sorbet, and Ice Cream Maker
. I don’t think that you can make actual ice cream in a Yonanas Deluxe Ice Cream Treat Maker
, but it does make some good sherbet (find some yummy sherbet recipes here).
Don’t forget the accessories! You’ll need fun new Ice Cream Bowls and an Ice-Cream Scoop
. Do you need a new ice cream recipe book
? Or you can try this ice cream book
. Of course, my favorite is the Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Ice Cream & Dessert Book
!
And don’t forget an entire summer’s worth of Sprinkles! The kids are going to go crazy when they see all those rainbow jimmies.
So, get ready for ice cream season and start making your own favorite ice cream flavors at home.
I hope that you and your family love this easy and delicious Cherry Garcia Ice Cream recipe. *Making this recipe? Take a picture and share it on Instagram! Make sure to tag it #PintSizedBaker so I can see what you’re baking up in the kitchen!

Here are a few more ice cream recipes that use an ice cream maker
Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Ice Cream
Cherry Garcia Ice Cream
Homemade Ice Cream is the best! The fresh cherries and quality chocolate make for a decadent treat that is sure to be appreciated!
Ingredients
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup fresh cherries, pitted
- 3 oz shaved dark chocolate
Instructions
- Place your cherries and chocolate chunks into the freezer.
- In your mixer, whip eggs until light yellow, the slowly add in sugar. Add cream, milk, and vanilla, then transfer to your ice cream maker.
- Follow the directions on your ice cream maker.
- Add the cherries and chocolate in the last 3 minutes of the churning process. Transfer to a freezer safe container and freezer overnight.
Notes
I used a KitchenAid Stand and KitchenAid Ice Cream Attachment.
Place the Ice Cream into a plastic or glass container to freeze overnight. I don’t have any metal ice cream containers. To prevent it from getting icy, place plastic wrap on the ice cream to seal it and keep air from it.

Wow those look great
thanks so much!
Oh, wow! That ice cream looks divine, Karyn! I grew up in Vermont about 20 minutes from the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream plant … and one summer my brother worked there. He got to bring home 3 … yes, 3 … pints of ice cream EVERY day. We loved Cherry Garcia the absolute best. Sooooo yummy! I’m loving seeing what we all made for our ice cream-themed give-away. 🙂
Tracey @ The Kitchen is My Playground
I would LOVE to visit the original B&J shop! All you can eat ice cream sounds way too tempting.
This looks fantastic!,,,,,
Thanks so much!
This is our absolute FAVORITE Ben & Jerry’s ice cream which regulated it to a treat now and then (we always must buy 2 pints – one for each of us – which we spread out to 2-3 servings each). NOW I can make it – well, once I get an ice cream maker that is (#1 thing on my “get list” if I win) !!!
It’s so easy to make! Good luck on the giveaway!
I’d buy a few more sets of Fiesta Ware. They come with bowls that would be beautiful if they were full of ice cream! 🙂
i love Fiestaware! All the colors are so fun to mix and match! Good Luck!
I would buy all the things I need to make this! (ice cream maker and all the little extras!)
I love all things “ice cream”! I also like to find fun ice cream things on zulily :). Good Luck!
Looks yummy! Since I already have a really nice ice cream maker, I would probably buy some cute bowls, a nice scoop, and some good quality chocolate to make some delicious ice cream with.
Gotta have all the cute accessories! Good Luck!
I really, really want an ice cream maker so would LOVE to win this & get one right away!
Good Luck! I love my KA one!
I would get the Ice Cream Maker Attachment and loads of sprinkles!
I love, love, love sprinkles!! Gotta have a ton of them!

Thanks for stopping by Mz. Helen! Have a great day!
I’ll use the $100 to get a new food processor. Thanks for the chance!
Nothing wrong with that. I love my Food Processor {almost} as much as I love my ice cream maker.
OMG! Cherry Garcia at home??? *swoon*
I’d love to own an ice cream maker! I’ve got my eye on a fabulous looking Cuisinart.

Good luck on the giveaway. I know that Zulily had some good Cuisinart deals a few weeks ago. Check it out and see if they have it again.
This looks fabulous! I’ll have to try this over the summer 🙂
It’s great! With Cherry season, it’s a must! I’m sure frozen cherries will also be great!
We have been wanting to buy an ice cream maker so maybe this will be our chance. Thank you for the giveaway and post.
I love mine! It’s a great investment! Good Luck!
I would get a Kitchen Aid attachment. I have been eyeing the pasta one.
I have the pasta attachment, but can’t use it anymore because my motor can’t handle the load 🙁 I need a new mixer…

I’d go for the Cuisinart you linked to – it does everything!
I’ve also seen the Cuisinart on Zulily for a special sale. If you’re not a member, I can send you an invite. I LOVE shopping there! Good Luck!
I personally LOVE strawberry but I would definitely choose this is my close second. I love dark chocolate and anything with it the ice cream is a sure plus 😉
Cherry Garcia, mmmmmm.
I know, right?? So good!
Oh gosh! my Amazon wish list is soooo long, it’s full of kitchen accouterments like a microplane and real vanilla beans to make ice cream!
I have one vanilla bean and it cost so much that I’m scared to “waste” it on a recipe… I’ve gotta get over that and just make something! Good Luck!
I bought some of these on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/50-Extract-Grade-B-Madagascar-Bourbon-Vanilla-Beans-6-7-/290678095433?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43adc3be49 and they were only ok (the seeds were microscopic though the flavor was excellent). So I don’t know what to get next. You could research it and get them to give you some for your blog maybe!
Hi Karen,
Your Ice Cream looks awesome! Thank you so much for sharing with Full Plate Thursday. Hope you are having a great weekend and come back soon!
Miz Helen
Thanks so much, Miz. Helen!
Yikes, probably clothes or books.
That’s ok. It would be your gift certificate to buy whatever you need.
Yum! Cherry Garcia is one of my faves, too…along with Phish Food…but, then, I’ve not met an ice cream I don’t love! Well, except spumoni. Not a fan. 🙂
I would love an ice cream maker. Which one is the best? The Cuisinart or the kitchenaid attachment
I agree with ya there! I just do not see the thrill of pistachio ice cream. LOL 🙂 Good Luck!
That looks amazing!
Thanks so much!
Genius Idea! I am putting together a round-up of great frozen treats, and I’d love to include this. If it’s cool with you, I’ll just grab one of your pictures and give you a link back–I would never take part of your recipe/tutorial. If this isn’t okay with you, just let me know. you can email me at nancy(dot)verly(at)gmail(dot)com. Thanks!
Thanks Nancy. It’s great to share with your fans. I’m so glad you liked it. Thanks so much for letting me know.
Gosh, this looks good! Pinned and sharing on fb and twitter from Saturday Dishes.
thanks 🙂 It was really good!
I made this and it tasted like frozen milk and nothing like ben and Jerry’s.
Hmmm… Not sure why? I agree that it isn’t 100% as sweet as the store bought container, but it should have had more flavor than “frozen milk”.
Hi Karyn – besides pitting the cherries, was any additional prep work done (slicing, etc) before they were introduced to the ice cream?
I believe I sliced some in half and left some whole. It’s been a while. If you don’t want to deal with that, you could try the frozen cherries, again slicing some in half and leaving some whole.
Looks so good! I love Cheery icecream!
Come by and share on my linkup today!

This recipe worked great. Thank-you for sharing. Everyone loved it.
I love this ice cream and I’m so glad that you did too!
Just wanted to pop in and say thanks for the awesome recipe. I pinned it since I had some fresh cherries leftover and frozen them after cutting them. For the ice cream i shaved the chocolate on my grater and I chopped the cherries a little. It is really delicious and cherry garcia isn’t even my favorite flavor. The shaved chocolate takes home made ice cream to a whole new level. Even the base ( vanilla ice cream) before adding everything in was really tasty though. I cut the sugar to 1/2 cup too since I don’t like things too sweet ( probably since I eat the whole container in just a few sittings lol.)
I’m so glad that you enjoyed the ice cream! It’s one of my favorites.
