Perfect Sized Family Cakes

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Duncan Hines. All opinions are 100% mine.

This Perfect Sized Checkerboard Cake is great for a weeknight family birthday celebration.

I love to have a slice of cake at the end of my day, but I end up with so much leftovers and it’s just too tempting to have all that goodness hanging around in the house. But, the bakers at Duncan Hines heard the pleas from my waistline and created this Perfect Sized Cake Mix. This box has everything that I need to make a 6-inch cake – including the cake mix, frosting mix and the disposable pan! That’s just the right amount of cake for my family without a ton of leftovers. Thank you!!

This Chocolate Cake is the perfect size for a family of four to enjoy. It's not to big and not too small - it's just right!

The people at Duncan Hines have thought of everything with this cake mix. I added my egg, water and butter to the cake mix then transferred the batter to the disposable pan included in the kit. The only dishes I had to clean was the bowl and beaters. That’s it! Clean up was a breeze. I also liked that you make the frosting with real butter. It tasted great and the consistency was perfect!

The Perfect Size kits comes with a 6" disposable pan, the cake mix and the frosting mix. You just add in the water, butter, and egg.

I was sent five flavors to try out. They are all already in DH family line up, so there are no new flavors. I baked a few in the oven and I tested some in the microwave as well. The oven produced a fluffier cake, but the microwave took only 6 minutes at 70% power. For all the college kids out there, that’s right, you can totally make this in the dorm room!

Any day is a great day for cake, but a family birthday celebration always requires a cake. Two Perfect Size Cakes make a big impression!

Some days call for CAKE while other days deserve cake just because. It’s the “just because” days that really matter and build a life time of great memories. There are birthdays that fall on a weekday, trophies won in competitions, spelling tests passed with flying colors, and Tuesdays. You don’t need a full sized sheet cake or four layer cake to celebrate when it’s just you and your family, but you still want to mark the occasion with a humble slice of cake at the end of the day. Now you can celebrate the little things in life with a perfect-sized cake for two, not ten.

I made a Duncan Hines Perfect Size Cake with a Peanut Butter drizzle just because it's Tuesday!

To start off, I made the traditional chocolate lovers cake, topped it with melted peanut butter. It’s so easy and so yummy and my husband loved the flavor combination.

Use a decorator tip to make a fun decoration on the top of your cake.

Then I made a double-decker Strawberry Lemon Checkerboard Cake. It has a 6-inch strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting and a 6-inch lemon cake with lemon frosting. I used a 4 inch and 2 inch biscuit cutters to cut circles then rearrange them with alternating colors. I colored the cream cheese frosting pink and added a 1/4 teaspoon of strawberry extract. I used some of the lemon frosting to crumb coat the sides of the cake then used an open tip to pipe on a design. It’s so easy yet this little cake makes a big impression!

Enjoy family dinner time a little bit longer when you serve up a perfect sized chocolate cake. It's just the right amount for a family of four!
